Japanese Mannikin
Lonchura domestica
Class: Aves
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Fringillidae
- It is not encountered in the wild;
- Longevity on the average is 7 years;
- In North America this manikin is called “a social finch” because of its companionable temper;
- Females of these birds do not sing, they emit only sounds characteristic for the species. And an adult male is also “dancing” when it is singing: it raises feathers on its head and fluffs them up on the belly, the bird is hopping on one place and turns to one and the other side, and it twitters not loud.
