Crocodile
Crocodiles lived on the Earth already at the time of dinasaurs and have changed very little for the last 65 million years. This group includes real crocodiles, alligators and gavials. They all are big predators. Most crocodiles inhabit rivers, sweet lakes and lagunes, however, some species live in salty marine waters and may swim into the sea. Alligators and caymans (excluding one species) can be met only in America. Real crocodiles are spread mainly in Asia, Africa and Australia. Though there exist some Central- and South American species.
Crocodiles are creophagous animals, they eat both living animals and carrion. These predators most ofter lie in wait for mammals coming to the watering place. Sometimes they use the other tactics: they swim to an animal for example to a water fowl, from below and all of a sudden catch it. Crocodiles swallow small animals as a whole, and tear the big ones into pieces.
Female crocodiles oviposit near the water putting the eggs into thick degraded plants and silt. Mother jealously protect their sets and then hearing the voicees of young crocodiles ready to hatch help the babies to get out. Then a female crocodile takes care of her babies during several months.
