American leaf-nosed bat
Carollia perspicillata
Class: Mammals (Mammalia)
Order: Cheiroptera (Chiroptera)
Family: Bats
It is distributed from South Mexico to Paraguay, in South Brazil, Trinidad and Tabago, on the Lesser Antilles islands. They live from 2 up to 6 years. They received their name because of the process on the nose which takes part in the orientation with the help of echo-location. They live in large colonies – several hundreds or thousands specimens in each colony. The groups are formed on the harem type from a male, his females and the offspring.
