Beautiful Prevost’s squirrel
Callosciurus prevosti
Class: Mammalia
Order: Rodentia
Family: Sciuridae
- They occur in the South-East Asia and on the islands of Indonesia.
- Longevity is 15 years.
- These squirrels have a prominent and a very beautiful colouration which does not prevent them from camouflage: the black stripe hides the animal in dark wet jungles, red belly blends with red bark of trees, and the white stripe imitates a ray of light gliding between branches of trees.
- Prevost’s squirrels rarely breed in captivity. Babies are born without hair and blind, they spend their first time in the hollow.
