  • It is distributed from Canada throughout North and Central America up to Venezuela and Ecuador.
  • The life span is 20 years.
  • By their colouration their imitate deathly venomous snakes – coral snakes, they differ from them by the alternation of the colour bands. It received its name owing to a widely distributed delusion which attributes to these snakes liking of milk which they as though milk in cows on the pastures.
