Program “we are learning at the zoo”

The program enables to extend your knowledge of zoology, environmental protection, ecology by the example of world fauna study as well as the fauna of Tula region, and includes the following stages:

• 1 stage Preschool education (senior and preparatory groups)
• 2 stage School Education for primary school

Explanatory Note:

Tula Regional Exotarium – a specilaized zoo for the reptiles. The fields of activity of the exotarium are very diverse. One of the main directions of our activity is cultural and educational one.

On the basis of our museum we developed the program of museum pedagogics, which includes zoological, ecological, environmental, zoogeographical, culturological, regional aspects, and is aimed to help the teachers and kindergarten assistents. It takes into account the age peculiarities of children and may be used during a long period, and also this program makes children acquainted with the animal world of their native region.

Our program includes the classes in the form of lectures (held on the basis of an educational establishment with the display of 10 – 15 animal species) with the elements of games and the usage of resumptive material, subject excursions, quizes on the basis of the exhibitions, celebrations and contests of children and young people creative work held in the exotarium.

While visiting the exhibition you can obviously trace intersubject communications. During the demonstration of animals the synthesis of anatomical, physiological, ecological, geographical, culturological and even historical knowledge is carried out.

The immediate communication with animals promotes the activation and increase of efficiency of educational process and opens up the opportunity of putting the acquired knowledge to use. During the lessons, besides the display of animals, we use illustrated and collection handbooks, video and audio records, natural materials for children to depict the animal and model them.
