Our Achievements
According to the International Zoo Book, the Tula Regional Zoo has the largest reptile collection in the world. The general number of animals exhibited in the Tula Zoo allows it to hold the second place among Russian zoos. A lot of animals are kept only in the Tula Zoo, they can’t be seen anywhere else. Scientists from different Science Academies as well as zoo employees from different countries come to Tula every year in order to buy unique animals, or at least to examine them.
At the present moment the Zoo possesses the largest in the world collection of reptiles, that numbers over 525 species and subspecies.

Each year our animals have over 4000 cubs.
We were the first in the world to get the breed of 48 species of reptiles and amphibians, the first in Europe to get the breed of 4 species, and the first in Russia to get the breed of 76 species.
The Zoo has received international recognition in 38 countries of the world.
We have participated in the scientific description of 4 newly discovered species.
We have published 152 articles and 2 books in five different languages.
The Zoo has founded 2 scientific magazines – a local history magazine and an entomological magazine.
According to the results of the competition “Window to Russia-2001”, the Tula Zoo was unconditionally placed among the 20 best museums of Russia.

In 2005 we have become the only museum of ecological education of youth in Tula.
Each year our Zoo is visited by about 80 thousand people, both living and visiting in Tula, and our exhibitions in other towns are attended by about 600 thousand people.
